The year was 1940. India was on the path to achieving independence. During this time, Late Appasaheb Patwardhan began working to ensure that the benefits of freedom reached the Bahujan Samaj, particularly the poor and economically weaker sections. Inspired by Gandhian ideals, he founded Kunabi Seva Sangh in Lanja, Ratnagiri district.
Appasaheb gathered a group of like-minded colleagues who were equally committed to the cause of the underprivileged. Among the notable personalities associated with this mission were:
Late Advocate Anant Rege
Late Moropant Joshi – Freedom fighter, journalist, and Member of Parliament
Late Nanasaheb Vanjare – Freedom fighter
Late Samant Guruji – Ascetic educator
Late Shamrao Peje – Respected people's leader
In addition, Late Balasaheb Kher, then Chief Minister of the Bombay State, and Late Thakur Bappa, a renowned Gandhian social worker, were permanent members of the institution.
With such an illustrious foundation, Kunabi Seva Sangh has a proud legacy. The current generation of workers and volunteers continues to uphold this heritage with dedication and commitment.
